This is what Closed Caption does over HDMI!

I bought this Panasonic DMR-EZ28K 1080p upconverted DVD recorder because a reviewer mentioned that it would do subtitles via an HDMI cable. It does! But I had trouble getting it to work. First you need to go to the recorder's "Display Settings" and enable subtitles and adjust your CC settings. At first no subtitles were displayed at all and I was very angry about the "waste of money". But then I randomly pressed the buttons on the remote control. Wow as soon as you click the 'Show' button (the…

Older models are better

I bought a DMR-EZ28K to replace my old Panasonic DMR-ES20S. At first I was disappointed. After 3 months of use I still feel the same. The recording quality is good, but you have to jump through hoops to operate the device. A good 30 seconds pass after pressing the power button. before you can start any functions. During this entire waiting time, the machine flashes "HELLO". Normally I would expect the open/close button to be above the DVD tray, but that's not the case. The power button is…

I can't live without a DVD recorder, but this one is no good.

I had the previous generation of this Panasonic DVD recorder. It worked great for 2 years and then one day I put the disc in and there was a weird noise and kaput! I knew I needed a different Panasonic because I was hoping the discs I hadn't finished would still work in the new DVD burner, and they did! Hope this lasts at least 2 years. I think it has a new function when there is a disk problem occurred on the second or third disk. Also, it worked great and I expect it will continue to work…

Great picture but disappointing software

Bought this unit to replace a failed DMR-ES15. The ES15 has an old analogue TV tuner so I don't think it's worth fixing. I was dying to get the DMR-EZ28K because I thought it would be the next step up from all the great features Panasonic has packed into the ES15. While the DMR-EZ28K offers great video, the editing features have taken a giant step backwards (for example, the phrase list that saved so much time on the ES15 is missing on the EZ28, meaning you'll have to edit from scratch every…
