I make smoothies for breakfast every morning so they have a lot to go with (especially frozen bananas, avocados, pears and figs). I've gone through several OEM bases. One leaked through the shaft sleeve, one tore the rubber coupling, and the other stripped the threads on the coupling. The cost of genuine parts is over $20 and the price is half that. The plastic base isn't as thick as the OEM's, but other than that they look the same. Since base strength hasn't been an issue in the past, I suspect they'll last about the same (6-8 months). Everything seems to be disposable these days, and in order to make money off a product they have to sell you a few overpriced parts (unless they can sell you a brand new blender).
