We have just returned from a cruise with 9 people in Alaska. We were on the princess ship. And it was a lifesaver! It really was the only way to communicate! Cell phones don't really work and/or are very expensive to use. The ship app does not notify you when you have a message (in fact you must be logged in to see if there is a message). And it really was the best way to communicate! We all had our walkie talkies on the same channel and luckily we very rarely heard other bands (I think the first day or two but then we switched channels and there was no other interference). From time to time you found yourself in a bad part of the ship and there was some interference, but you were still able to communicate. In fact, they performed far better than we ever expected - I highly recommend them. Especially in this price range!
