Review on πŸ”† AIPER Portable Solar Panel 60W: Ideal Solar Generator Charger for Suaoki, Jackery, Goal Zero, Rockpals, Paxcess Portable Power Stations - Perfect Portable Foldable Solar Charger with USB Port for Camping, Van, RV in Summer by Maurice Strawther

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great panels but know what to expect.

I bought these solar panels expecting less than the 60 watt rating like any other solar panel on the market. The 60W rating was made in a Japan Industrial Standard laboratory environment. In fact, the manual states that about 80% of rated power was expected in bright sunshine. So note that it's 48W (see attached manual image). I bought it to charge my portable power station when camping (which is why the review revolves around the 18 volt output, I haven't tested the 5 volt USB output because if you want to charge USB batteries, usually looking at much smaller panels, see (See image for size comparison with smaller solar panels designed for USB sticks) First I followed the instructions in the manual (see attached image) and oriented the panels south and adjusted the angle , when the day changed. During the day it mostly supplied in the 40-25W range (from noon to late at night in California in the summer) which was enough to charge my 220Wh power station as shown in the picture (note that I usually only use about half power. Power plants charge at night when I'm camping, so half a day was more than enough). I have a different brand power station so I was worried it might not be compatible when I bought the panels, but this solar panel comes with a great range of tips so I found the right one easily. I really wish the extra nib sizes were marked on the side instead of looking in the manual and matching the nib size to the letter on the side of the nib (see attached manual image) but this is a minor annoyance. The double fold coasters were a nice feature, they felt really solid and I expected them to hold up in moderate winds. The panel folds up easily and is relatively compact. However, it is held in the folded position with two buckles, which I think look a little cheap, but I've used them several times, tried to load them several times and haven't seen any problems with them. Another notable feature is the isolated rear bay (pictured). I believe this should help protect the life of the voltage regulator in the duct by keeping it cooler after half a day in the sun and that area is chilly to the touch. so I find it effective.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • I vaguely remember
