Review on Panasonic PV-V4611 Hi-Fi Stereo VCR with 4-Head Technology by Chris Cruz

Happy with quality but disappointed with features especially VCR+. I've been using the Panasonic PV-4564 for a long time and I'm very satisfied. Eventually a tape got stuck in it (like every VCR I've ever owned, but oh well) and I figured with the low prices on this 4611 I'd just buy a new one instead of fixing the old one. The most important feature for me is the VCR+ function, especially how my old VCR could change channels on my cable box. In my research, I excluded all non-VCR+ VCRs. When I received this PV-4611, I was very surprised to find that Panasonic had apparently tacitly dispensed with the external control function! (Recalling history: The *original* VCR+ systems from the '80s were tiny remote controls that sat on top of your TV and sent out the right infrared codes to control your VCR and cable boxes. And of course, they had those crazy TV Guide numbers calculated (apparently VCR+ now just means ONE of those things.) I can't find any info on my old VCR on the Panasonic website, nor can I find info if they have any modern models with the feature I want. Just to be clear, the problem is that I need to set my cable box to the correct channel prior to timed recording. And I can't record programs from two different channels without manually switching the channel at the right time. Of course I could do without my cable box but then I couldn't record from scrambled channels like HBO. grumbling. The actual VCR that I received works fine and the quality seems good. I'll keep it (but only because the price is so low) but I'm sure the Panasonic bugs me. PS Does anyone know what "VCR+Silver" actually means? works perfectly and the quality seems to be good.
