Until recently I have only worked with sanding blocks a few times. Whenever I needed it, I settled for regular sand and used it until the sides were smoother than the kid's back. My old method wasn't working for my current project, so I was looking for cheap and easy alternatives to a bunch of $5 sanding blocks in different grit sizes. This grinder had decent reviews and was the right price. Now that I've used it a bit I give this sander high marks, particularly for the following traits: Resilience - I don't throw away blocks and when I clean up the used sandpaper I use the leftovers for other projects. Versatility - I love that I can switch to a different grit so easily. I was afraid it would be difficult to get a good fit, but it isn't. Bonus - there is a rounded edge and a beveled edge for machining parts. Affordability - For less than I paid for a Scotch sanding block, I now have a tool that will last me quite a while.
