Decent charge controller for permanent installation

I have built a gazebo in my garden and didn't want to connect it to AC because I just wanted to add lighting. So I decided to buy some 250 watt panels, gel battery but I also needed a controller. When this controller became available I decided to order it. Here's what I found: 1. This controller does NOT come with the port protection advertised and mentioned in the manual. I don't know why it's not there. So your terminals are not secure as advertised. If you take a rubber gasket sheet and attach it to your rig using this sheet, it will seal the top and sides of the case. A light layer of petrol on the clamps after tightening will do the rest.2. Speaking of terminals, they are NOT marked on the back where you will connect them. This is not good. Take the time to mark the back to make sure you wire it up correctly! 3. Use the largest wire you can get, up to the maximum size that will fit the connectors provided. In solar systems, larger wire is your friend, smaller wire is your foe! Make sure you use the right wire crimping tool! A loose connection causes problems and causes corrosion. Keep the battery and array as close as possible. There is NO load position on this controller. You need to connect the load directly to the battery.4. It is ALWAYS recommended to use a temperature sensor for any type of installation that draws sufficient current from the battery. When the battery is fully charged, it will get warm. Heat causes plates to warp and shortens battery life. The temperature sensor allows the charge controller to limit the charging rate to protect the battery.5. The terminal type listed in the instructions does NOT match what you are sending. The guy pictured inserts the bare wire right into the plug, and then you tighten the wire, just like you would in a switchboard in your house. One of the kits uses spade terminals that must be crimped onto the wire. USE the right tool here! Incorrect crimping and incomplete crimping will bring you grief. The controller works for my setup. I actually put my controller in a big box next to the battery compartment. I use LED bulbs that illuminate the room well. The charger fully restores the battery in about 4 hours in our winter weather if I leave it on for 8 hours. So, I'm happy with the controller as it does the job I wanted it to.
