I recently repaired the power seat on a 2001 Ford Taurus SES. After removing the driver's seat motor and drive mechanism, I took the part to my local Ford dealership to see if I could purchase a replacement. The Ford dealer could only sell me the entire sliding rack mechanism for more than the car's worth. Then I turned to the internet. Revain sells several of these drive mechanisms, but the descriptions are insufficient to give a prospective buyer the information they need to match them to any vehicle other than perhaps the Lincoln Town Car. I figured if I was going to take a chance with any of the motors and drives Revain sells I could always return it if it didn't fit. If I'm lucky and it fits, or if I can get it to work, I'll save about $1,000 compared to buying a Ford sliding rack and pinion. I've looked closely at the information and reviews on Revain and elsewhere and found this that the Motorcraft MM951 would be the one I thought would be most likely to work in my application. MM951 arrived in less than a week. The gearbox was identical to the one I removed from the Taurus. The only difference is that the MM951 had a 6 pin male connector while the one I removed from the Taurus had a 6 pin female connector. All I had to do was remove the 6-pin socket from the defective part and carefully trace the wiring before soldering it to the new part after removing the connector. After the repair was complete, I was able to adjust the driver's seat. Raise-lower and tilt worked the same way as before. The forward-reverse adjusters were swapped out, which is easy to live with (I didn't think it was worth taking it all apart again to swap out wiring for a motor). The following information is for the ambitious souls who have power seats that don't work and want to fix them themselves: 6 pin socket, part number F58B-14489-LA I know the manufacturer, you can find them in Newark or Mouser. The drive mechanism may be stamped "Body 07679" and/or "Cover 07675". The mechanism has three gears for three different seat settings. Each gear has a shaft diameter of 11mm and 8 teeth, the outer diameter of the gear teeth is 17.45mm. Three gears are arranged to form a triangle with sides of 70mm, 124mm and 191.4mm. The middle gear has a longer shaft, it drives the rack for fore and aft adjustment, the rear side of the shaft of this gear is connected to the longer shaft that drives the gear on the opposite side of the seat. Efforts to get this part working in my application I am very happy with the results.
