Review on TetraPond Fountain Remote Controlled Color Changing LEDs by Whitney Bailey

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Looks great but the remote control isn't the best.

I've been thinking for a long time about buying one of the RGB LED lights for my fountain. I used to have a white Total Pond LED ring that I bought from Home Depot that lasted about a year before the LEDs started to fail. When I searched the internet for a replacement, I came across this kit from Tetra Pond. What intrigued me the most was the ability to change colors and effects with the remote control. I finally pulled the trigger on this kit and received it yesterday. Assembly and setup was easy. Connect the LED wire to the transformer, insert the batteries into the remote and hold the "I" button on the remote for five seconds, then plug the transformer into the outlet while pressing the "I" -Hold the button for another five seconds to sync the remote control. . From now on you can change the lighting settings via the remote control. Unlike most other outdoor pond and landscape lighting kits, this kit does not have a photocell. So you have to manually turn the light on at dusk and off again when you're done. The remote control can be a bit finicky. Sometimes it becomes unresponsive (the red indicator in the center of the color wheel doesn't light up when the buttons are pressed). This lack of response usually lasts a few seconds. The buttons are capacitive (much like smartphone touchscreens) and when they work, they respond to the lightest touch. This kit includes a 3-stage nozzle, riser sections, and fittings to attach to the pump (not included). I already had an existing pump and fountain and didn't need the fountain hardware that came with it. I'm not a fan of the new Tetra tips. I have an old set of Tetra tips that look better than their new ones. I should note that when using this LED ring with nozzles other than those included in the kit, without a device to attach the ring to the nozzle or tube, it can be difficult to attach this ring to the nozzle or riser to install . . It took me a while to put together some PVC fittings to attach to my fountain's riser. To be fair I can't deduct stars for having to adapt this to my aftermarket setup as this kit wasn't really designed for that. Finally, the lights look amazing and my pond is a treat at night. I may update this review in the future depending on how long this kit lasts and/or how well Tetra handles any issues that may arise.

Pros
  • Highlights the fountain's features
Cons
  • Doubtful
