It really works. He is not fragile. This makes it easy to fill the cage from the outside and empty it from the outside. The only thing I would change (but only because we have so many birds) is to make the chaff box bigger so it doesn't have to be emptied twice a day, but that's because 12 birds use one feeder, so of course they eat a lot of seeds from it. Getting a second one should make a difference. I find that the slots in the base really don't allow much to fall through, and most of the straw goes in the part of the feeder that faces the bird. But it still works no matter what. We are so happy and grateful that this solution exists to put an end to the wasteful use of seeds and the everyday mess on the floor. I checked the straw box and it was full of seed pods, not seeds, so it really is a seed savior, eaten rather than strewn.
