Be sure to read the rest of the review but this part is actually a later addition to the review. I loaned this to a professional photographer to try and give me feedback and that's what he said: it will NOT be good for portrait photography because the light will be too harsh and directional BUT it's a great device for a small Product. Photography (exactly what I wanted it for), especially desktop photography because it's lightweight, easy to use and has smooth adjustment of the color temperature of the light. In other words, my guesses about the light were correct, but it does require some work, namely a frame or stand to mount the light in addition to the camera, and possibly buying a second or third one to use as part of a group , depending on how much and what kind of light to use. So it looks like I'll end up buying more of this product depending on how further testing of its usefulness goes. In other words, it's a potentially great product, but to present it in the best (erm) light you'll need to spend some money on clips and frames and maybe some lights. I ordered this based on this standard hot shoe slot. I tried using this on a Sony a6000 hot shoe but it didn't fit. Reading the description, I noticed that the Sony brand was not explicitly mentioned and wondered if that was intentional. When I searched the web to see if Sony Alpha cameras have a custom hot shoe mount, I couldn't find anything of the sort. In fact, I've read and read a number of internet articles about the hot shoe and none of them mentioned Sony having a non-standard hot shoe. So I can't transfer it to the camera. However I will probably try to buy a stand for it to use this flashlight which I tested unassembled. The charger works well; The light is bright and powerful, it features multiple color screens overlaid onto the main light to change the light spectrum. In addition, the spectrum of light can be adjusted manually via the two small dials on the main body of the lamp, which adjust the hues of blue/green and red/yellow, and each can be easily adjusted to the right amount of light mixing. This feature is probably very handy for finding the right tone of light needed for good shots without having to go outside and experiment with different lighting elements to find the right balance. It was difficult to get good lighting color in the light tent we used since one of the original fluorescent tubes failed. The problem is buying new lightbulbs to find the right ones. Costs are rising and we're stuck with a bunch of lightbulbs we no longer need. That's why mixable light controls with adjustable spectrum are welcome. A device with a battery attached is not light, although the manufacturer has kept the weight to a minimum, and it will be difficult to use this camera-mounted light without a solid base such as a tripod. I also suspect that for this light to be most effective it needs to be used in pairs to get light from two sides or corners. As mentioned, I haven't been able to attach it to my camera and haven't bought a separate stand for it yet. I will update this review when I do. 3-star rating due to an issue with the hot shoe installation and the thread adjustment knob sitting a bit askew on the hot shoe mount threaded spindle. Everything else seems to work well and the light is definitely easy to use.
