Review on πŸ”§ Performance Tool Extractor Set 5 Piece W80635 by Tutcht Cobb

Revainrating 3 out of 5

upset. the first broke too easily.

I have some broken exhaust flange bolts from a 1990 Chevy K2500 truck engine that I have on my workbench. Since it's on a stand I have pretty good access to the screws. I drilled one and had no success with Easy Out so I bought this set. I used a 3/8" with a 6" long handle and with little effort. I lay on my back under the pipe and pulled it down. Other sizes are either too big or too small to work so the set is now useless until they come another broken bolt of a different size. I have been working on engines for over 50 years and there is no better process I have used oil but will now try to bore it out and cut new ones. I can't put all the blame on this tool because there was probably some sort of operator error related to using a wrench that doesn't center the pressure directly on the extractor. I have a 3/8" sliding T-handle for the next few bolts as well as another 3/8" puller to apply any force directly to the center of the socket puller. Since they don't have a square end I can't use a faucet handle. sd Make it a little bigger since it's a through hole and use a nut/bolt instead of the threaded rod/nut I was supposed to be using. I gave 3 stars because it was too easy to break the extractor, but maybe the result would have been different with anything other than a short wrench. However, I think the most badly broken studs to work with are the studs in the exhaust manifold and flange as they have been severely heated over many years. So if you're working with mild steel with less grip, the results may be different. I also bought a set of Lisle LI70500 Lisle LI70500 clutch tips to use with my Easy Outs and this can make them more efficient and easier to knock out. I have more to remove, and I'll probably snap a few more, so I'll update the review when the results are better. I'm not a mechanic. just one guy in the garage but now that i've added up the cost of removing two studs i could buy a new/used exhaust manifold, recycle the old one and avoid the hassle. To update. This kit is covered by a "lifetime warranty" so I sent in the defective part on 2/5/15 and we'll see what happens. To update. I received a complete replacement kit, so you couldn't ask for better support, although the product is still significantly inferior to the extractor. I think.
