Review on πŸ“± Universal Smartphone Bike Mount Holder Cradle - Koomus BikeGo 2: Compatible with All iPhones and Android Devices by Ben Swett

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Great for small to medium sized phones but maybe not great for phablets

For the price this seems like a good product. However, my Galaxy Note 4 is in a UAG protective case and the Koomus mount is barely big enough to hold it. The clip size adjustment ratchet is a bit difficult to move and when I first tried to resize it I thought I broke it when one side came out fully. However, I adjusted it and attached it to the handlebars, where it stayed secure during my first 20-mile ride on tarmac and gravel. Regardless, I wish the product had a more defined tab, something that would hook onto the front edges of my phone to hold it in place and reduce the chances of it popping out of the cradle after a hard hit. I'm deducting a star from my rating for this reason as I need to find a way to modify the product to hold my phone more tightly with the clip. The rubber mount that holds the clamp to the handlebar consists of a rigid rubber collar that slips over the bar or neck. It comes with a collar for small handlebars, as well as a rubber anti-slip pad that you can place between the clamp and the handlebar if you wish. Mine didn't seem to need it as my bike has a pretty thick neck. In general, it will hold securely and not slip throughout the ride. The universal ball joint that allows you to rotate and adjust the phone is a bit loose in my opinion. Even a slight collision with my phone would have knocked it out of the position I originally placed it in, and I had to be careful to check distance and speed not to disturb it too much. I had to take a star off my rating for this as there doesn't seem to be any way to adjust or tighten this connection and all I can see is that it loosens with use. As a last line of defense, Koomus comes with a rubberized end cap on an elastic cord that tucks into the headphone jack in case the phone falls out of the holder. I had to twist quite a bit to insert the plug into the headphone jack for it to be practical, but after that it seems to hold tight. However, I am concerned that this rubber plug might break in my headset jack over time - I don't use it at all, but that certainly doesn't mean anything inside could break.
