You get what you pay for. but that doesn't make it gaffer tape.

I suppose you get what you pay for. This gaffer tape is less expensive than any other I've seen. Probably for a good reason. On fast food menus the sandwiches are perfectly staged and look like the pinnacle of quality eating. In reality they're a sloppy mess.Well, it's the same for this tape. The tape I received is poorly wrapped (looks like it was either exposed to some extreme temperatures or manufacturing was sloppy), and the paper label on the inside of the spool is peeling off. It's also a bit yellowed; Not too badly, but it's definitely not pure white as shown in the product photo. (I shot the attached customer pic with my phone, which auto-white balanced to the tape. Trust me, it's yellowed like an old piece of paper.)The sides of the roll are as sticky as the tape itself. It'll be covered in dust and grime in no time (not great for white tape). It left residue all over the plastic wrap (which was really brittle and difficult to remove), and leads me to believe it'll leave residue elsewhere. The adhesive smells strongly, and more like duct tape than any gaffer tape I've used. It has the feel of something between gaffer and duct tapes.I'll update my review if after using it for a few weeks it works well, but so far I'm not impressed. In fact, I have trouble calling this gaffer tape. Between the peeling label, the loose wrapping of the tape around the spool, and the crinkly plastic wrapper I'm pretty sure I got some "old new stock". Another reviewer said it seemed like this tape had been sitting in a warehouse for 20 years, and I agree. If you want an impartial recommendation, I had great luck with this: Pro Gaff / Gaffers Tape .5, 1, 2, 3, & 4 Inch Widths X Variable Lengths, 3 Inch, White . It's a lot more expensive, but it held an inflatable zebra to the top of a van for 10 hours, at times at 80 MPH. (Don't ask.) It also came off with no residue and without damaging the van's paint job. I've used it for other, shall we say, more typical applications and it worked great there as well.

Pros
  • USE IT FOR LABELING PROJECTS. Aside from serving its purpose as a floor marker in photography and film shoots, you can also use this pro gaff tape as a masking tape for other projects, such as labeling. You can easily write on its cloth material.
Cons
  • The matte finish may be prone to peeling or flaking off over time
