I bought the device to try and recover files from 3 old PC hard drives (1 SATA drive, 2 44 pin IDE drives). The good news is that it really works. Connecting a SATA drive and extracting files was very easy with my Mac. I ran into problems trying to connect my IDE drives to this adapter. The adapter has a 40-pin IDE drive connector on the side of the device, which means that most older IDE drives will not fit this connector. So you need to use a 4-pin power cable adapter to connect to a 44-pin (technically 43-pin) IDE drive. It's not easy to assemble all this without accidentally bending the pins, but somehow I managed. Yes, and connecting the 4-pin power supply is very difficult due to its location next to the USB cable. So if you have big fingers, you'll probably have a harder time than me. Others have mentioned this as well - it's just bad design. Definitely worth the price if you have old computers that don't work anymore but want to keep the files. I just wish I had had something like this years ago before I got rid of my old laptops that wouldn't turn on.
