Both parts are metal with some plastic on the back of the flush lever mechanism. This simply installs into our existing bathtub. The metal hook that connects to the back of the drain arm was slightly thicker than the hole provided, but I was able to attach it by looping the hook's metal wire and then inserting it back and forth into the hole in the drain arm until it was loose enough to move freely. Everything was installed and operational (including hook wire modifications) in less than fifteen minutes.
