Review on DIY Sliding Barn Wood Door Kit - Pre-Drilled And Ready To Assemble - Natural Solid Spruce Wood - Interior Single Door - Fit 4FT Rail by Patrick Hilzer

Looks good but subpar quality.

We were looking for a barn door at the big box stores, then decided to check here on Best Buy. Well we found this door and, better yet, it came with all the hardware. I was actually surprised by the quality of the hardware; I expected cheap screws, nuts and bolts but some of the hardware is even grade 10.9! And the black color really makes them look good (although easy to scratch with a wrench or socket if not careful). As soon as I started to put the door pieces together I realized why the box stores sell their doors for so much more. Some of the pieces were splintered in a way that isn’t obvious just by looking at them, but when putting it together your hands will know.Next, the thick pieces of wood that make the frame of the door come pre-drilled so all you have to do is put the screws in. Fine for someone who isn’t familiar with a drill but leaves zero margin for adjusting for any "mishaps” the workers might have had when drilling the holes. In a perfect world, the door frame would be put together and the pieces drilled together so that the holes all line up. In my case, because the holes didn’t line up perfectly, one of the sides was slightly higher. Not, too terrible so I decided to keep going. Well, not only did the holes not quite line up, but one side was also drilled at an angle, causing the long piece of the frame to not be flat with the rest of the door. in other words it looks as if the door is warped or twisted. It wasn’t very apparent when I was putting it together and staining the wood (so no returns here!), but after hanging it on the track on the wall it clearly is much closer to the wall on one side vs the other. I tried loosening the screws and "twisting it back” but it didn’t help much, if at all. I would probably try to build my own next time.
