Review on ๐ŸŽง Marantz SR5015 - 7.2 Channel 8K Ultra HD AV Receiver (2020 Model) with Dolby Virtual Height Elevation, Built-in HEOS, Amazon Alexa Compatibility, Bluetooth Wireless Streaming & Home Automation by Paul Beach

Sounds great, but strange things sometimes happen with my Samsung TV

This receiver sounds great; For movies, it's a definite improvement over the Onkyo 7.2 receiver it replaces. The sound is warmer than my old receiver; and via a wired network connection to my Mac, it plays my iTunes music collection without the harshness that comes with Apple streaming. The highs were still very clear and the receiver produced a good stereo image with a deep soundstage. Marantz seemed able to squeeze a little more fullness out of my Mythos speakers than the old receiver, even though my old one had a few more watts per channel. I'm trying to use Enhanced Audio Return Channel (e-ARC). When I switched to Marantz with e-ARC enabled, my TV forgot the optical soundbar settings. I ended up having to disable e-ARC, which seems to remove me from TV audio from Dolby Atmos. Thankfully the Prime doesn't encode for Atmos, at least not yet, and my Blu-ray player has a separate HDMI port for audio. It was a bit annoying though, so I had to deduct a star.

Pros
  • Lots of good vibes
Cons
  • No power
