When I was finishing up my garage, I ran Ethernet from my media center to my TV spot. What I didn't run was HDMI. This solved that problem. Now I can control and view my computer from my garage. So far, my only disappointment has been that when I tried to add a network switch and start another network device, the other device (the camera) didn't work. It could be because I don't know how to set it up, or it could be because the system just can't transmit network data over video. But whatever, plug and play, I couldn't connect the IP camera to my LAN with it. Otherwise works great, 4K video and features, no noticeable lag compared to direct HDMI. EDIT: The product stopped working a few days after the box was returned. I can't find any manufacturer information or contact information for product support. I do not recommend this product.
