I was able to connect my old DV camera to a recently purchased old laptop that has a FireWire port. Ideal for transferring DV tapes to a laptop hard drive. The real reason I wanted this cable was so I could reuse an old camcorder as a 24/7 security camera. It did not work. After a few hours, the laptop lost contact with the camcorder, even though the camcorder was still on. Disconnecting and reconnecting the cable will resume feeding. Not reliable enough for 24/7 recording. However, I'm not deducting a star because I don't think it was designed for that purpose.
