Review on πŸ’» USB Phono Plus - ART by Jessica Wood

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Quality assembly, good sound

Looks like very good build quality - a solid metal body, quality connectors, volume controls work smoothly and silently. The sound quality doesn't bother me at all - I use it to record vinyl on my computer and it works great and sounds very, very clean. I also use it to play from my PC to my stereo - I set Monitor Source to CPU and connected Monitor Out to Tape 1 on my Adcom preamp . It also sounds very, very clean (although I can make a mistake by opening a new webpage or running another program on the PC). It can only be powered from a USB port on your PC, but I connected a spare 12V DC power supply to it so it would have a higher voltage (and possibly less noise) than USB. I've been using it since Ubuntu 17.04; No problem. The only improvement I would like to see is digital gain control on the phono input; This would give me precise repeatability if I had to re-record the album. That happens often; I want to adjust the volume so that the peaks of the recording are close to full scale but without clipping. With digital gain control, I was able to look at the recording, see that the peak was 6.2dB below full scale, and increase the gain by exactly 6dB. Analog control requires multiple attempts to get the right setting.
