I first bought a FIXD scanner only to find that it failed to clear the specific code that was causing the check engine light on my Sprinter. After taking it to Mercedes to have the code decoded I found that it was a minor component causing the error and didn't want to spend money on the outrageous review the dealer gave me. But I wanted the "Check Engine" light to go out and the Mercedes not to turn it off unless I fixed it. Well problem solved. This scanner will clear the code for a failed heating element that is not used except in frigid climates, which is entirely unnecessary where I live in California. The code comes back after a few runs, but at least I know I can clean it up now.
