YouTube is your friend!

First of all, the product itself is pretty damn cool. I can't say anything about durability yet, but initial satisfaction is great. I think you need to get 3 out of 10 on the CONVENIENCE scale to be able to install it. This does NOT mean you need to understand ELECTRONICS. That means you have to be ready to crawl around your car and ready to remove the plastic trim. parts, maybe drill a hole (very unlikely unless doing a custom WAAAY) and in my case spend some time under your truck to route the wiring. That's easy if you follow the route of other wires! It took about 2 hours to install, maybe a little longer, but I was struggling with a broken arm so I slowed down a bit. I don't think it says it in the description but the camera angle is ADJUSTABLE. I've seen several YouTube videos where the "grid" on the monitor gives the impression that they're parking 3 or 4 feet in the air. Just turn off the camera and the raster image appears to be "grounded"! ha ha. FINALLY, my VT1 kit came with quick disconnects (little pieces of plastic that "snap" splicing to existing wires). I know what I'm doing there, used the splicers exactly as they should be used, and . NOTHING. At first I thought I might have a DOA camera when I checked the wire for power and ground and knew they were fine. Then I jumped to YouTube for help. Of course I stumbled across a wizard who occasionally found that the wires are too thin to get an efficient connection through the splicers, so he just cut out the splicers and twisted all the wires together, using pipes, youtube or used duct tape anyway, like anything , which is not just plug and play beyond its description. For the price, and heck no matter what the price, the VT1 is definitely worth it.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
