I have been trying to find a leak in my 3/4 ton Dodge pickup for years. I've been to several air conditioning shops that have much more expensive leak detectors than me and none of them have been able to find a leak. He uses R134a and he found the leak in minutes. It turned out that this is a microcrack in the compressor, which stopped flowing when the compressor warmed up. Was excited to find a leak, not so much about having to replace the compressor. Then I discovered a tiny leak in my neighbor's mini split home air conditioner, which uses an R410. He had to charge it every six months and they never found a leak. We found it in about 2 minutes. (The flare on the high-pressure copper line that goes to the X-valve broke because it was too tight.) Cut the line, flare it again, and bingo!, no more leaks. Considering the price and the fact that other "Pro" models are much more expensive. Detectors couldn't find any leaks, I'm very impressed with this one. Turn it on, let it warm up and start searching. The LED display tells you how big the leak is and constantly adjusts to ambient conditions, allowing you to pinpoint the location of the leak rather than just going mad in a cloud of escaping gas. These two initial repairs alone exceed the price of the device. Definitely recommend this to anyone who needs to find unusually small leaks, even the average HVAC technician. This Elitech ILD-100 even beat Inficon's $800 detector and Johnson Controls' $1000 detector.
