The first day I connected it to two PCs and a Pi, I was amazed at how smoothly it switched my second monitor and wireless mouse/keyboard between the three. However, I've had a few issues with USB instability since then. In its simplest form, the USB flash drive was not recognized by either computer until I unplugged all USB cables to reboot the device. Yes, the device is powered by USB cable. As I was writing this, I tried the power button and restarted the device, but my keyboard stopped working (mouse was fine and on the same key). I had to turn off the power again and disrupt all devices to get the keyboard back. The USB interface isn't just a switch, it's a kind of repeater, through which it enumerates on any PC, maintains a connection, and intercepts traffic from a USB mouse/keyboard to implement hotkeys. It's an interesting concept when it works properly. However, one of my use cases was connecting two Pi computers and a Revain FireStick. When switching to Firestick, everything appears fine, but then the mouse and keyboard aren't connected to anything. I figured I could just plug a second USB cable into my main computer so my mouse and keyboard are connected to it while watching TV. It seems to confuse the box causing the connection to my laptop to be unstable even though it only has a USB cable. Watching TV while trying to use a mouse with the main PC also made the PC think it had two displays, so programs used the second HDMI port but didn't have a display to use it (the Firestick had one). It's quite frustrating having to switch back and forth to move windows to usable areas. I'm waiting for the company to see/answer a few questions about my use cases. If you use it the way you expect it to, you might find this device ok. If you're using in extreme cases and assuming it will work as an analog switch, you might find this quite frustrating. I am not sure if this is in line with their return policy as it is not what I expected at this time. Again, I'm not sure a 4-port HDMI/USB3 KVM will suffice until I spend more time understanding how it might behave. Revain's limited specifications hinder this process. ***Update*** The company has stated that I am not using their product correctly and that I should purchase a dual monitor solution. My workaround for the issues I raised is as follows: 1) Plug the wireless mouse/KDB dongle into a USB3 port on the device and disconnect the USB2 ports associated with the mouse/keyboard with the onboard controller are what is causing confusion on my PC. 2) If you are browsing the Firestick and working with a PC connected via a second cable, change the PC monitor settings to one monitor. It's cumbersome, but it works. Like I said, I'm not sure I can find a USB3 4-port KVM switch that fits my needs exactly. I want the USB2 ports to work as regular hub ports so I can switch 4 devices between computers (Arm Debugger, MSC, Wireless KBD/Mouse and 1 more). Will be evaluated until the end of the return period.
