This filter is impressive! I have had 2 other similarly priced air purifiers, they have HEPA filters, but this one also has charcoal and another layer in front of HEPA. There's a slight smell, but it's from the charcoal. It's not repulsive at all and I'm the only one in my family who can smell it. I like the noise level. Sleep mode is quiet (and I want the loudest). I LOVE the fact that it has parental controls because my 2 and 4 year olds love changing the settings on my previous one to "Flying Balloons". Not sure how well the sensor works because it's been green in all my rooms, but I don't care as long as the filter does what it's supposed to!
