These alarms were installed in a brand new home. They were paired with a total of 11 BRK/First Alert photoelectric smoke detectors. They were very easy to install and ran silently for about 2 weeks. First, the alarms will randomly beep 3 times once or twice a day. Then they started disappearing for no reason. Now I don't know if you've ever slept in the house with 11 different smoke/carbon monoxide alarms going off, but I wouldn't recommend it! This is not fun! The alarm went off for about 15 seconds and then stopped so we didn't even have time to walk around and figure out what type of alarm was making all the noise. Today the alarm clock rang again, but this time it didn't stop. I ran around and hit the mute buttons but they still didn't stop. None of the alarms indicated that this was the culprit and none of the mute buttons worked. After 5 LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO lowingic out after 5 LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL minutes of screaming and frantic running around trying to stop the madness, we started ripping off the alarm from the ceiling. I was angry! I called First Alert and they offered to send me ONE replacement unit, but I had to decide which one was defective. Then I asked how I could silence them next time since the buttons don't work. I was told to set the stairs on cool with the hair dryer and blow air into each smoke alarm until they stopped. INDEED? Should I do this at 3:30am when trying to decide if I need to evacuate my family or if it's just cheap smoke detectors giving false alarms? Is that the protocol for useless smoke detectors? Do yourself a favor and avoid First Alert like the plague. I am in the process of purchasing new smoke alarms after less than a month of use in my new home. I just don't trust them to work if/when I have a really catastrophic situation in my house.
