Review on Cryorig Universal CR R1B Tower Heatsink by Adam Nelson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Impressive in every way

I'm running a Cryorig R1 Universal on an Intel Core i7-6700k processor on an Asus Maximus Hero VIII motherboard. The cooler setup is perfect and has enough clearance (about 1/16 inch) for 4 Crucial Ballistix Elite DDR4 RAM sticks that have some tall and quite wide heatsinks. Enough space for the side panel of the CM Storm Trooper. At stock speeds I get 28 degrees Celsius in idle mode, under heavy load in the stress test the maximum temperature of the processor is around 67 degrees Celsius, when overclocked to 4.8 GHz the idle temperature rises to 34 and 72 degrees Celsius, respectively . Please note that the maximum temperatures are from intensive stress tests and are not an indication of normal use. With normal usage during gaming or HD video processing and transcoding, the average CPU temperature is 48-50°C. These temperatures are reached when the motherboard is in use and can handle the load. Fan PWM tasks at default speed control settings. Installation was quick and easy. The included alcohol pad, thermal paste, and screwdriver were a nice touch. Everything that comes with it is designed for easy installation. During operation, the fans inside the case are almost inaudible. The whole system is so quiet that I have to press my ear to the case to hear any sound from the system at all. The fit and finish of the R1 universal cooler is excellent. This is a really great looking cooler, I've only had compliments on how good it looks. So it looks great and works great. I couldn't be happier with that.

Pros
  • CPU cooler
Cons
  • Not bad but...
