I bought a Sony ICDSX46-128 MD digital voice recorder to keep my work tidy. I constantly switch between different clients/projects throughout the day and needed an easy way to accurately record the time I spend on each one. The Sony is so small that I can carry it in my shirt or trouser pocket unnoticed. That means I actually take it with me everywhere (one of the problems I've had with other time tracking methods). Sony has five folders in which individual recordings can be saved. I use them for (a) timesheets, (b) expenses, (c) assignments, (4) notes, and (5) interviews. When I play a specific folder, I get the full sequence of just the items I'm looking for. The folders also make it easier for me to download things to my assistant's computer via the built-in USB connection. Very cool. The voice recorder has many other features that I haven't used yet. Maybe I will, maybe I won't. I know it worked as soon as I put the battery in and has been working great ever since. First make sure you are using the 'Hold' switch on the back of the recorder. Otherwise, the voice recorder will accidentally get stuck in your pocket. For those who make a living by six-minute increments, Sony is a godsend.
