Review on πŸ”Œ Ideal Orange Power Plug Luminaire Disconnects, Pack of 5 (Model 30-682) by Jeremy Byard

Revainrating 5 out of 5

It is intended for permanent retrofitting of box lights with LED inserts. (LED bulbs sold separately.)

Most LED light inserts or downlight conversion kits have this type of connector already installed on the power cords. Some inserts may have an Edison adapter (traditional screw base) in the retail box with the mating half of this connector already installed on the short pigtail. If, like us, you're making the constant jump to using LED bulbs (as opposed to screw-in LED bulbs) in your glass lights and don't want to mess around with the extra bulk or hassle of an adapter, this is probably the connector you need required for this change is incremental. FOR THE FAST WHO WANT TO REMOVE THE OLD PLUG FOR REUSE, NOT! THEY ARE DESIGNED FOR ONE TIME USE AND SO AFFORDABLE THAT YOU NEVER WORRY ABOUT CHEAP EQUIPMENT - ELECTRIC FIRE IS NOT WORTH YOUR CHEAP. As other reviewers have pointed out, they are for solid wire, not stranded. And not rated for wires smaller than 18 AWG (the American Wire Gauge uses the inverse of the name-to-size ratio, meaning a larger number equals a smaller diameter) - all the light bodies I've converted, were 16 or 18 AWG, depending on the originally intended maximum wattage bulb for which they were designed, and apart from the quick application of solder and effectively tinning the bare stranded wires to act as a solid, this was a very simple build . If you are unfamiliar with these terms or the wire tinning process, hire a professional or stick with a pre-made adapter like the Rextin Medium Edison E26 Socket Adapter if your LED bulb didn't come in retail packaging.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Interchangeable
