Review on Enhanced Lowrance Hook Reveal 5 Fish Finder - 5 Inch Screen with Transducer and C-MAP Preloaded Map Choices by Jason Mulah

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Too much frustration with sonar signal reception.

I don't like the Lowrance Hook 5 Reveal and wouldn't recommend it to anyone for two reasons. Yes it comes with everything I need to make it work but the main reason is that it doesn't send a sonar signal to the sonar. It showed the temperature of the water, the speed I was walking at, but didn't return a sonar signal. I thought it was because I placed it in the wrong spot in my kayak so I moved the sensor and still no return. The guide that came with the Lowrance was about as good as the one for the Apple iPhone, but useless. I ended up ordering a plastic holder which I had to install by drilling 8 screws into my Ocean Pacific kayak to hold the mounting rail. After submerging the transducer in water, there is still no signal. I went to the best troubleshooting site in the world, YouTube, and found that there is an on/off switch for the sonar signal. Mine was disabled from the factory. Who on earth puts an on/off button on their sonar. Stupid. Now I think my sensor worked fine in the kayak, but now I have a large plastic device attached to my kayak. Lowrance didn't help, but someone on YouTube did. Don't buy if you don't want to risk your signal working from the factory. I waited too long to return this unit or I would have bought a Hummingbird unit.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Not sure
