They are very similar but much better to other anchors you may use. After using them I won't buy anything else. This is an excellent product and if you need to fix anything in drywall this is the one you should buy. I've installed hundreds of drywall anchors over the years, so I've become somewhat of an expert on them. They always get the job done with minimal effort. If possible, I pre-drill a hole to put them in. This is not required but will make installation easier. I use a drill slightly smaller than the diameter of the "drilling" part of the anchor before threading so they go in nice and tight. After drilling a pilot hole, I install the anchors by hand using a screwdriver rather than a drill. It is important that they are screwed into the drywall in the correct amount for best strength. While this can be done with a drill (I've done it many times), hand will give you the best results. I usually land with the face of the anchor roughly flush with the surface of the drywall. After using a few of these you will get a good feel for how much torque is required. They can be installed with a simple hand screwdriver if you don't have a drill, but it takes a little effort and minutes. Or you can use a drill to install them without drilling a pilot hole first, they will drill themselves through the wall. Just be careful not to push them too far into the wall. Just one hair too many and the drywall comes off leaving you with a big useless hole in the wall. Anytime I run out of these materials and am forced to use whatever I can find locally, I am almost always disappointed. Some of them are brittle and either break in two during installation, or the screw cuts into the anchor too hard and the entire anchor turns in the hole in the drywall. Either way, other anchors can fail, usually resulting in an oversized hole in the wall and a mess that needs to be cleaned up. Now you need to move the anchor a few inches or use another type of anchor, such as a lever bolt. Whenever I've had a bad experience with one of these other anchors, I want to buy them in bulk so I never have to deal with this annoyance again. You are an amazing weight. I've used it to mount a ton of things on walls (and some on the ceiling) over the years and I've never been disappointed. Just use a number of anchors proportional to how big/heavy your object is. They are sturdy but have common sense - don't expect to use 2 of these to wall mount a 60 inch plasma TV.
