Review on 🌫️ Vornado MD1-0034 Replacement Humidifier Wick (2-Pack): Enhance Moisture & Freshness, White by Emanuel Guffey

Firstly this is for the MD1-0034 1 inch filter. There is a very similar looking MD1-0002 filter that is 1.75 inches thick. Which filter you need depends on your Vornado model. I have a 2 gallon EVC500 that requires two MD1-0034 filters. The filters are expected to last around 4-8 weeks depending on various factors such as water quality, hardness, environment etc. They also have an antimicrobial coating to resist mold. Trick 22 is that using hard water will result in mineral build-up that shortens its lifespan, while using softened water will cause it to harden and become unabsorbed. I use softened water, which makes my filters hard and no longer absorbs moisture. Once they've set (especially the top half) they won't absorb moisture or get wet again. The filter placement in my EVDC500 isn't great either as the filter tends to detach from the air intake so the intake air bypasses the filter, which I found using flexible (plastic) Tinkertoy sticks to hold the filter lightly . the air intake grille keeps it from coming loose :) TIP: #1 I have found that I take them out every 1-2 days when they harden due to using softened water and soak them in a container for about 15 minutes. restores the flexibility of the filter and allows it to be resorbed. In addition, a fully washed and wet filter is already "primed”. #2 Too much airflow will result in the filter not absorbing properly and drying out. I try to run the fan at a low speed whenever possible, and also occasionally use a wash bottle to re-wet the top of the filter (where it dries first). With the above tips I can get through 7 weeks. my filter works 24/7 in winter in Michigan. The price for 2 packs is between US$10-US$15, usually it costs around US$13. I usually need 3 filters for the whole winter, so that's about $40 for the filters, which is more than the cost of a whole house humidifier filter for the season, so I plan on adding a whole house humidifier at some point and kick off my absorber portable humidifier. .I wish the filter was thicker as my EVDC500 seems to have room for a thicker filter which in theory would give it more strength and also give it more surface area for absorption and wetting, but they probably have reasons as to whether it's about compatibility multiple models or simply "designed to do what it was designed to do". However, if you need this filter for your Vornado, get it but try to keep an eye on the price as it fluctuates :)
