I bought this small desktop mini vise because I wanted something small and simple to hold small items for finishing work, soldering etc. I bought them on the website (not Revain) for $3. $4. . I wasn't expecting much based on the price I paid. I knew it would be cheap plastic. I was also surprised at how cheap it was. The entire base and 98% of the structure is hollow and made of thin plastic. The main spindle is also a chrome plated hollow plastic bolt. The only metal parts are the small metal jaw covers and the handle for the suction cup base. The suction cup base has a pretty terrible design. Instead of an actual suction cup, it's a square piece of hard rubber attached to a fold-out handle. When you pull the handle up, it rises in the middle of the square rubber element. While this creates a little suction, it's not enough for the base to actually stick to a surface. It will not stick to smooth surfaces or ANY surface. I've even tried glass. I quickly put the suction cup down and just clamped it or otherwise attached something to hold the vise.
