Definitely intended for flat surfaces, especially something like grout.
I tried them on a few pots first and found they didn't work very well on small curved spots. In the shower, on the other hand, you hardly need any detergent. The bristles are designed more for mortar/concrete and do an excellent job there. I had no idea how much work I put into the cleaning sponge. It gets the job done 1/4 times faster than a sponge. Some surfaces require very hard, stiff bristles. Definitely bathroom surfaces. The smaller round brush has a little scraper for getting into really stubborn things like resin.
