I have multiple sclerosis and have had problems with nightly restless legs and calf cramps for years. I have tried so many different medications and products but nothing has worked or had any unbearable side effects. Taurine combined with a magnesium supplement eventually gave me relief. It also appears to counteract the lingering side effects of other medications and promote well-being. I told my parents about it and they talked to their doctor and now my dad takes it to lower his cholesterol. As with any dietary supplement, I would recommend consulting your doctor before taking, especially if you are taking any other medications or have a medical condition. (Although my experience is that many doctors are not very fond of dietary supplements!)
