Integral part. Mine broke in two cycles up and down. I was able to combine an old broken gear with striped gear that has been running for the past 20+ years. able to take them both apart and use the old plastic part and the new internal parts and mechanism. So far, so good. I give 1 star because it breaks so easily and isn't the same quality as the original bought decades ago.
