Review on 🌱 Seeding Square: The Ultimate Square Foot Gardening Kit - Planter Tool with Seed Spacing Template, Seed Ruler, Seed Spoon & Color Coded Planting Guide by Scott Koeck

Great tool for the garden.

When I was exploring the possibility of buying a Seeding Square (not "seedling"), I noticed that some reviewers thought it sounded too easy until they tried it and were blown away. That would be exactly my opinion. Over time, my gardening experience deteriorated as I tried to grow mostly vegetables in clay soil and was constantly weeding. It was time consuming with limited reward. When I started my annual garden journal in January, I vowed to do better. My first new rule was that I would no longer try to plant directly in the ground. With the exception of a long line of sweet potatoes and individually caged tomatoes, I have kept that vow. I then decided to garden in cloth beds, which of course had a bottom so voles and other rodents would not partake of my expected generosity. I'm not a carpenter so wooden beds didn't suit me. The sowing square turned out to be the latest improvement in my gardening method. I've always had trouble measuring and planting a square foot of garden. Square eliminates this problem with color-coded pre-measured holes and a veg list for each interval. It also has a 1 inch dibble. You lay the square on the bed, then make holes of the right spacing and depth and drop a seed in each hole and cover it. If you've pressed hard enough, you've made a hole in the ground and are ready to plant the next adjacent square. It's really easy and can be done with some speed. You can make some adjustments. I planted Genovese Basil and found the two foot spacing on the seed bag inappropriate so I spaced closer and it seems to fit. There is no recommended spacing for okra so I figured it would grow most like corn and chose the corn spacing. My bush beans, on the other hand, are planted as recommended and sprout at regular intervals. Gardening is fun again with this year's improvements, including the seed square!
