I purchased this to use as a removable/temporary boarding ramp for my boat as there is no convenient place to permanently install a traditional boarding ramp. 1) You can't just throw the tip of the rope over the top and climb up the ladder like the pictures show. This causes the rope to slide down the pole until the rungs of the ladder rotate from horizontal to vertical. Instead, take the top loop and tie it to the spike like a string, up through the space between the spike's legs and around the horns. This prevents slipping. For myself I cut the top loop of the rope and attached stainless steel spring links to each end and then attached them to a pair of lashing rings at the stern of the boat. This provides extra stability when climbing the rope. I also replaced the next adjacent stern bar on the boat with a very large 8 inch bar that can be taken as a handrail. 2) The lengths of PVC pipe that hold each step at the correct distance from each other are quite flimsy. I don't know what the practical weight limit is on this ladder, but if you're a heavy person like me it might be worth replacing with the regular 40 PVC plan. I'm giving the product a 5 star rating because it's a smart design at a decent price and works well enough out of the box for most people.
