The broom itself has good bristle stiffness for sweeping things into the pot and you can't tell from the photo but the pan is deeper than you might think. I think it's about 3/4 inch deep so it will hold quite a bit of dirt. A side or corner shot would help show this. However, the problem with storage is that the broom doesn't lock into place. Hold them together like just about any other pan and broom on the market. That means you have to put it away when it's lying flat, rather than getting up and leaning it against a wall unit. If you try to remove it vertically, the broom just falls out of the pan, I wouldn't buy it if I knew that.
