Review on 16-Core, 32-Thread Unlocked Desktop Processor - AMD Ryzen 9 5950X by Jasin Gilstrap

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Seems like AMD released a lot of bad processors, the RMA fixed the problem.

My first CPU was riddled with random WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE BSODs and random reboots. After a major troubleshooting headache, I sent the processor to AMD. The replacement works great now. AMD really needs to figure out their QC. They seem to have released a lot of bad chips. However, the thing is fast. It's hot too. Don't just test it by downloading everything on Prime95. Run 4-8 threads and it gets a lot hotter as it runs as hard as it can. I've seen an 80C+ with a good air cooler and that was after a couple of transplants. It's very turbo-happy. I set the temperature limit to 75C in the BIOS and it gets to that value fairly quickly but doesn't exceed it. I might lose 100-200MHz turbo, but I'm fine with that.

Pros
  • Able to deliver a stellar performance of 100+ FPS in the world's most popular games
Cons
  • There are downsides
