I bought this because my hood predated Methuselah. The plastic case was so brittle that pieces began to break off. When the ballast failed again and crumbled into dust trying to remove it, I decided it was time for a new mount. The guy who maintains my aquarium recommended LED lights instead of fluorescent lights, so I did a little research and found this. It was easy to install on the underside of the oak canopy that fits my tank, but it came with "feet" that you can use if you don't have a canopy. The only cons so far are: (1) The size was too long to fit horizontally, so I had to adjust it diagonally instead. (2) Price. It is much more expensive than fluorescent. (3) When the aquarium keeper removes the canopy, he must turn off the light first and remember to turn it on again. light bulbs that I have. I hope so, because I don't want to pay for this lamp too often. Also, the light is better, brighter and makes my plants grow better which is why my caretaker suggested this in the first place. Deducting one star for the downsides I mentioned, but so far so good. I really have nothing to complain about and I like the fact that I no longer have a huge lamp under the canopy. easier access to the tank.
