Allow to heat, brush gently and slowly, comb through and then pick up all the hair while combing back so you can smooth down the hair under the top layer. This is a beard straightener, not a head straightener, although you can get away with it if you're careful. Shoe, I'm not exactly sure. I ran it underwater while it was cool (never turned it on) to avoid cracking the ceramic. I don't know how effective it was, but I did it anyway. Let it dry completely before reusing. Do not be stupid. This is a heated brush that will burn your skin if you leave it on your bulging cheeks for too long, but the slow motion prevents you from burning yourself. I haven't bothered to use high heat, nor do I see a reason. Overall I recommend getting it, it's cheap, heats up quickly and does the job.
