I bought this thermometer to replace another one I bought earlier this year. This thermometer didn't work very well, making it useless for cooking. The first thing I did with this thermometer was test it with boiling water to see how accurate it was. It's not really a scientific test as many factors affect the actual boiling point of water (like pressure, purity of the water, etc.). However, the thermometer advertises an accuracy of +/- 1 degree for the metric system, and in fact it read just under 100 degrees Celsius when the water boiled. This should be more than enough to tell when the meat has reached its temperature. (Note: The thermometer easily switches between Celsius and Fahrenheit). The thermometer is easy to use, can be stored by hanging it on the refrigerator (it has a magnet), and shows the temperature without delay. Another reviewer said the magnet wasn't strong enough to hold the fridge. However, the magnet in mine is more than enough. Maybe they had a bad block.
