Solid performance and very well made.

I was a little skeptical that this would provide enough power, but after an 8 day hike in northern Arizona I can say that I now carry this outlet with me at all times. It spread perfectly on my Xterra's windshield. Attached it to the wipers and roof rack to keep the wind out. The setup was to plug the line into a cigarette socket to keep the truck's battery charged. I also used the USB sockets on the panels to charge devices. It squeezed out enough juice to keep my 50 liter ARB fridge out in 32 degrees in the 80's and the fridge was in a black SUV which was much warmer than this one. In doing so, it also provided a daily charge for two iPhones, an iPad, a Samsung phone, and a battery charger for two full-frame Nikon cameras. The fridge was always on and usually two to three devices were connected to the system at the same time. Of course, it is necessary to position it so that it is in direct sunlight. But it was surprising how little light was needed to even start the base current. It produced electricity early in the morning and at dusk, but not with the full 80 watts. Same thing on a partly cloudy/overcast day. During the trip, gusty winds blew for several days. The hard lid and clip loops worked well. It flopped but no obvious wear and tear concerns. It folds very compactly for storage thanks to a thick nylon sleeve protecting the panels. An external pocket helps keep all ports together.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Requires outlet
