Review on Sony DRX720UL USB 2.0/i.Link External DVD+R DL/DVD+RW Drive by Sean Purnomo

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Old, reliable, good for archiving, still works

My home network. I had no problems with that. It was mainly used to burn data backups to DVD. While the speed over USB isn't great, this just gave me the right solution: 1. Keep a large amount of data2. Economical in cost (many computers)3. Non-proprietary cross-platform universal media4. Fast setup/installation. The cost was less than installing internal optical drives in any DVD-burning computer. Over the years, better and better options for archiving data and systems have emerged. I no longer use the hard drive, but it still works. My current operating system recognized it as a "DVD-RW drive" and was able to play CDs from it. The device is bulky and heavy. It's not something I would use when traveling.

Pros
  • Works with 4.7GB DVD+R/+RW discs and 8.5GB dual layer discs
Cons
  • Crumpled
