Received defective unit (3000+ non-contact IR reading). Will come back for an exchange. I have the same meter at work and have had no problems with it. Update: Turns out the meter comes with a dead battery which is why the non-contact thermometer isn't working. Replaced the battery and everything is fine. The only thing I don't like about this gauge is the dual HOLD/Backlight button - to turn on the backlight, press and hold the button for a second, but that also puts it in place. HOLD mode, so you have to press the button a second time to exit HOLD mode.
