Fasteners are hex head pan head screws commonly used in metal fabrication around the world but not here. You are PITA. The kit includes a small 4mm allen key. No additional equipment, you get enough. Lock washers are used on all wood to metal connections, but for some reason none of them were needed to connect metal to metal of the swivel block seat base. To assemble these stools I believe you will need a tube of Blue Loctite thread sealant and a long 4mm ball end allen wrench. It's impossible to get enough leverage to tighten the bolts with the tool provided, but you'll need it to get to all the bolts under the seat. Another PITA if you have big hands. You should also obtain 4.3/8 inch lock washers to use on the saddle bolts. Assembly takes about 30-45 minutes, more if you don't have the tools or experience. any large box or a local hardware store or auto parts store for about $15.00. However, they look gorgeous despite being a pain. Plan for enough non-recyclable plastic bags and Styrofoam for recycling. I filled 33 gallons.
