My KitchenAid fridge freezer wouldn't turn off and the temperature went over 40 degrees Fahrenheit. The defrost thermostat is not working properly, causing frost on the back of the freezer. In fact, the back of my freezer was covered in frost. There is a video on the website showing how to replace the defrost thermostat. I found this part on Revain and followed the instructions in the video. This is a very simple solution. The most time-consuming step was defrosting the freezer with a hair dryer. The fridge is now working normally - there is no frost in the freezer and the temperature in the fridge is about 30 degrees where it should be. In addition to the thermostat, I had to buy wire strippers and some wire splice nuts from my local hardware store. Total cost was about $20, probably a tenth of what it would cost to contact support.
