Homemade pet scans are best for ID tags

I haven't met any stray animals in my condo yet, but there are endless posts on my local social media with people asking for help to get a found pet to be reunited with her owner. I suspect people don't really know that these devices are available to everyone, not just vets and animal control officers, and you can scan and look up the ID yourself without having to go to a third party. The only downside I see is that the device has to be very close to the transponder chip to generate a signal, it has to be right on the animal's skin over the chip. It cannot store and call numbers, but it remains visible until you reset it.

Pros
  • GOLS certified
